GENERAL WEBSITE QUESTIONS

What is iSportsman and what is West Point iSportsman?

iSportsman is a web-based recreational program management system used primarily by the U.S. Armed Forces. Independently run by each installation, iSportsman is active at more than forty different installations across the country to manage hunting, fishing, firewood, and other programs. West Point iSportsman is the system at the U.S. Army Garrison at West Point.

When did iSportsman launch at West Point?

The West Point iSportsman website and check in/out system was launched in August 2017. This website allows users to create accounts, purchase permits, check in/out of areas to hunt and fish, get regular updates on regulations, news, weather, and meet all game reporting requirements. iSportsman replaced West Point's previous online system, Hunt Tracker.

What is the current edition of the West Point Hunting Map?

The current edition of the West Point Hunting Map is the 2019 version. Hunters should only be using the 2019 West Point Hunting Map and not relying on previous versions of the hunting map nor any training maps for navigation or area implement regulations. Area boundaries and implement regulations change with each new hunting map. Furthermore hunting and training area boundaries differ.

Why does the hunting map change?

The West Point Military Reservation is first and foremost a training installation for the service academy and visiting military. Hunting area boundaries change as military training exercises and development require. In general the West Point Hunting Map changes once every 3-5 years, sometimes more frequently and sometimes less frequently. Hunters should only use the most recent hunting map.

Guests must be checked in/out with sponsor and stay in same area as sponsor. Guest harvests must be reported.

Can I bring a guest with me if he/she does not want to hunt/fish i.e. a walker? What do we need?

Guest passes are not needed for walkers. A user may bring one walker with him/her while afield. Walkers must be checked in/out with sponsor and stay not just in area but directly with sponsor. Walkers may not harvest.

GENERAL PUBLIC HUNTERS

What is a General Public user?

As explained above, a user's Customer Type is the type of user a person is and explains how a person is eligible to hunt or fish at West Point.  Defintions of Customer Types are available on the New Users Page, accessible via the New Accounts Link Under Accounts. A General Public user is a civilian not employed at West Point who does not meet any of the qualification criteria for other customer types.

What can a General Public user do? What can he/she not do?

General Public users are eligible to hunt big game but may not hunt small game, upland birds, or waterfowl nor may they trap or fish. General Public user access is limited by time, area, and privilege. For more information on General Publci hunters, see the annual General Public Hunter Notice and Regulation 215-5 - Hunting, Fishing, Trapping & Boating document.

How can a General Public user register for an account?

The General Public user registration period takes place in October and November. During these months users can fill out a registration form and create an account. From December through September, General Public registration is closed. All new accounts created in that ten month span will be deleted without notification. General Public users are restricted by activity and therefore are indefinitely approved.

How can a General Public user purchase a permit?

Since General Public users may only hunt big game in the Big Game Regular Firearms season, West Point offers a restricted number of permits each year (30-35 permits per year) to General Public users on a first-come, first-served basis. Permits typically go on sale on November 1st each year and once sold out, are unavailable for the rest of that year.
