10/07 - 2024 HUNT LOTTERY NOTICE - The West Point Outdoor Recreation Staff at Round Pond will hold the annual Opening Day Hunting Lottery on Thursday, Nov. 7 at Victor Constant Ski Lodge at 06:00 pm. The lottery will determine hunting slots for the opening day of Big Game Regular (Rifle) Hunting Season. Natural Resources Staff will also be on hand to discuss the return of the lottery, the iSportsman system, Opening Day hunting procedures, Hunt Control site change, Opening Day and other questions.

09/18 - 2024 DMAP TAG NOTICE - Natural Resources is offering, as part of an initiative to help control deer browse and foster regeneration. Whereas in the past the DMAP was limited to a set number of hunting areas, it may now be applied across the reservation. Interested hunters should stop by the Natural Resource office, beginning Thursday September 26 or see Natural Resource at Hunt Control during Regular Firearm Season for more information. Unused tags must be returned to Natural Resources to be returned to the NYSDEC.
09/17 - 2024 PHEASANT STOCKING NOTICE - The West Point Natural Resources Section will be carrying out its annual stocking of ring-necked pheasant in September and October 2024. On Monday Sep. 30th, and Friday Oct. 11th, a combined planned 250 total pheasants will be stocked at a total eight sites. Due to a lack of success in harvesting stocked chukar patridge in 2018, chukar partridge stocking has been indefinitely discontinued. Natural Resources is accepting a limited number of volunteers.

The West Point Natural Resources Branch has marked off a 30-acre area around this work site as being off-limits to all hunting for the duration of this project (see map). All hunters, guests and their walkers are to avoid entering this for any purpose and are advised to plan their hunt and travel accordingly as traffic delays are expected near this site.

11/10 - UTAH NON-RESIDENT CONCEALED CARRY 11/13 CLASS NOTICE - West Point's MWR will be offering the UTAH (Non-Resident) concealed carry permit course on Sunday, November 13, 2022 from 01:00 PM to 05:30 PM at the Buffalo Soldier Bavillion at 628 Hodges Place at West Point. This course is a non-live fire class and allows non-residents to carry a concealed handgun in thirty-five (35) states. 11/01 - 2022 HUNT CONTROL RELOCATION NOTICE - The West Point Natural Resources Branch has officially moved Hunt Control and Harvest Check Station from Bldg 1670 (the Wolf Den) on Mine Torne Road to Bldg 1666 (the Snake Pit) on the corner of Mine Torne Road and Route 293. (see map) Bldg 1670 remains the CLEO (aka Game Warden) building. All hunters are reminded early check-in for Opening Day on Nov 18, all check-in on Opening Day on Nov 19 is via Hunt Control. All deer/bear harvested in Gun Season must be brought to Hunt Control.

11/21 - 2021 HUNTER ACCESS NOTICE - In 2021, hunting access at West Point will be a little more restricted than usual due to timber harvest taking place in Areas I, L, N, and Q and the replacement of two bridges - one in Area T1 and one in Area Z1. The timber harvest will be taking place during the weekdays and may close Areas I, L, N, and Q during as well as Range Roads 20 and 22 (road barriers are in place). The bridge replacement will likewise close Areas T1 and Z1. See notice and map for more.
09/28 - LOTTERY CANCELLATION NOTICE - West Point has cancelled the annual Opening Day Hunt Lottery beginning in 2021 and in years to come. The lottery was incompatible with the iSportsman check in/out system and mandated in-person check in on Opening Day. The Opening Day Hunt Lottery required unnecessary time and effort from hunters and hunting program managers and according to results from a recent survey was unpopular. Now, Opening Day will proceed via the iSportsman check in/out system. See notice.

08/16 - EHD & THE 2021 DEER SEASON NOTICE - In late summer and early fall of 2020 the Lower Hudson Valley, including West Point has experienced an outbreak of a serious deer disease called Epizootic Hemmorhagic Disease (EHD). This disease, spread by midges, is very serious to deer but does not infect people or pets. This notice discusses developments in the EHD outbreak at the state and local level so far this year and recommendations and requests NRB is making to West Point hunters in response to EHD. 08/02 - PERMIT FEE INCREASE NOTICE - Effective 01 September 2021, all West Point hunting, trapping and fishing permits will be increased fifty percent. This permit fee increase - the first of its kind at West Point in about ten years - is to help program managers meet operation costs including maintaining the West Point iSportsman website and other program services such as pheasant and trout stocking. 11/18 - 2020 REGULAR SEASON NOTICE - Early Check-In Day for Opening Day of the Regular Big Game Season is Friday, November 20th, 2020 at Hunt Control from 07:45-18:00. Opening Day of Regular Big Game Season is Saturday, November 21st, 2020. On that day, the iSportsman system will be down and all check in/out is through Hunt Control. The iSportsman system will be back up on Sunday, November 22nd, 2020. All big game (deer and bear) harvests must be processed via Harvest Check at Hunt Control. See link for more.

11/07 - ANTLER POINT RESTRICTION (APR) NOTICE - West Point is implementing an antler point restriction (APR) deer hunting regulation to affect all deer hunting seasons beginning Saturday, November 16 - the 2019 Regular Rifle Big Game Season Opening Day. This regulation will limit buck take to all hunters in selected areas to bucks having antlers of no less than three one inch points on one side. For hunters uninterested in antler point restrictions, some hunting areas will be exempt from this regulation. See notice for more information.

09/17 - ANTLER POINT RESTRICTION PROPOSAL MEETING & VOTE NOTICE - USAG West Point is considering the implementation of an antler point restriction for deer harvested at West Point. There will be two meetings, tentatively scheduled for Monday, September 30th at 18:00 and Thursday October 03rd at 18:00 where interested stakeholders may come to get more information and where registered iSportsman users (see notice) may vote.
09/10 - LAKE POPOLOPEN & STILWELL LAKE DEPTH CHARTS - Earlier this year, West Point's Natural Resources Branch contracted for a side sonar scanning bathymetric mapping of Popolopen Lake and Stilwell Lake. Using the data retrieved from that project, that Natural Resource Branch has created depth maps for Lake Popolopen & Stilwell Lake. Anglers and boaters interested in this information can find schematic and aerial photo map charts on the Maps Page.
09/09 - HUNTING MAP CHANGES NOTICE - In consultation with West Point DES Range Control and FMWR's Outdoor Recreation, West Point Natural Resources Branch has made several changes to the previous hunting map. Changes include the combining of Areas D1 and D4 into a new Area D1 (there is no more hunting Area D4) and hunting areas J1, J3, and K are now strictly Bow Only Areas (J1 Bow, J3 Bow, and K Bow). 09/03 - 2019 PHEASANT STOCKING NOTICE (As of 09/23/2018) - The West Point Natural Resources Branch will be carrying out its annual stocking of ring-necked pheasant in September, October, and November 2018. On Monday, Sept. 30th, Friday Oct. 11th, Friday Oct. 25th and Friday November 1st, a planned roughly 420 total pheasant will be stocked between eight sites. Due to a lack of success in harvesting stocked chukar patridge in 2018, chukar partridge stocking has been indefinitely discontinued. Volunteers Welcome.

10/01 - WEST POINT GENERAL PUBLIC HUNTING NOTICE - Hunters otherwise ineligible to hunt at West Point have the option of signing up for accounts to compete for one of thirty-five General Public Hunter permits in 2018. New accounts will be accepted from October 1st through October 26th. Permits will go on-sale on a first come, first served basis on November 01st. General Public hunters have severe restrictions in terms of time and area accessibility as well as harvest capability. See notice for info on restrictions and account registration.
09/28 - 2018 OPENING DAY HUNTING LOTTERY NOTICE - The West Point Outdoor Recreation Staff at Round Pond will hold the annual Opening Day Hunting Lottery on Thursday, Nov. 1 at Victor Constant Ski Lodge at 06:00 pm. The lottery will determine hunting slots for the opening day of Big Game Regular (Rifle) Hunting Season. Natural Resources Staff will also be on hand to discuss iSportsman system, opening day hunting procedures, and other questions.

03/13 - 2018 PRE SEASON FISHING & iSPORTSMAN NOTICE - The West Point Natural Resource Branch Office and MWR's Outdoor Recreation Division have jointly sent out an announcement letting people know about the general fishing rules and the iSportsman system. Included in this announcement are general overview of the site, information permit types that will be offered, and brief step-by-step instructions on how to create an account, purchase a permit, check area status, check in/out.
03/01 - 2018 TROUT STOCKING NOTICE - The West Point Natural Resource Branch will carry its annual trout stocking this spring. Brook trout, brown trout, and rainbow trout - over 6500 fish in all - will be stocked at ten locations over three nonconsecutive stocking days in late March and April. The memo contains information on stocked fish by size, species, date, and water body. Volunteers welcome (see memo). Memorandum will be updated promptly regarding changes. Check back as stocking dates approach.
01/08 - 2017 DEER HARVEST SUMMARY REPORT - The West Point Natural Resource Branch has published its annual 2017 Deer Harvest Summary Report. Report features data on harvested deer including total number of deer taken during each season during each season and containing information of sex, age*, weight* buck antler point, buck antler beam diameters*, area harvested in, and type of hunter harvested by for deer harvested in 2017. (* denotes information only taken during Regular "Firearms" Season).

09/14 - 2017 PHEASANT STOCKING NOTICE (REVISED 09/29 & 10/17) - The West Point Natural Resources Branch will be carrying out its annual stocking of ring-necked pheasant at six selected sites across the installation over three stocking days. On Saturday Sept. 30th, Friday Oct. 6th, and Friday Oct. 20th, a planned 267 birds will be released at the following sites: The Bleachers (Z2), Old Bridge (L), NBC Site (R), Burke Mountain (N), Block House (T2), and Sweeney's Pit (E2). 09/01 - iSPORTSMAN-IS-ONLINE NOTICE #02 - The West Point Natural Resources Branch Office sent out an announcement letting people know that the iSportsman system is fully up and running. Users can now create an account for themselves, purchase a permit online using the iSportsman permit purchase system, and check in/check out of areas now to go hunting and fishing. Also included in this e-mail were step-by-step instructions on how to: 1. take mandatory safety brief, 2. purchase permits online, 3. Check in, out.
08/18 - iSPORTSMAN-IS-ONLINE NOTICE #01 - The West Point Natural Resource Branch Office sent out an announcement letting people know about the iSportsman system and that it has gone live. The permit purchase system was not fully up and running at this time but would be shortly. The announcement informed people about some of the features of the site, permit types that will be offered, and included an attachment informing users how to create a new account.
